Associate professor Carolyn Forestiere asks political science major Laurentina Cizza a question following the oral presentation of her project “Perceptions of Nationality and Citizenship: A Look at Jordanian Palestinian and Trans-Jordanian Identities.” Cizza is one of several Sondheim Scholars who participated in URCAD 2012.

Macy Bokhari, Political Science, Presents at URCAD 2012

Political science major Mysoon “Macy” Bokhari shares findings from her project “Implications of the Arab Spring on Women’s Rights,” funded by an Undergraduate Research Award, at URCAD 2012.

The Baltimore Sun article “Annual conference showcases UMBC’s focus on undergraduate research” highlights Macy’s UMBC experience. Reporter Childs Walker writes, “After graduate school, Bokhari hopes to parlay her fluency in Arabic, French and English into a career in global conflict resolution. No matter where she ends up, however, she said she’ll remember UMBC as the place that stoked her intellectual curiosity.”

UMBC economics major Juan Collazos discusses the challenges associated with collecting economic data on relations between China and nations in Sub-Saharan Africa, such as figures on foreign direct investment. Collazos is a Sondheim Public Affairs Scholar and McNair Scholar at UMBC. He will present the research project “Digging Deeper: Sino-Sub-Saharan African Economic Relations” at an URCAD poster session, 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the UC Ballroom.
